Note: This is the epilogue for "Vengeance." May contain spoilers from “Vengeance” and the app game “Nightjar.”

Warning! Warning! The cryogenic storage has been breached. I repeat. Warning! Warning! The cryogenic storage has been breached.

The alarms echoed and screeched down the vast building. Every spot of the interior flashed a red glare off the metallic walls and floors. Armed Starfleet officers running around the area looking for the one responsible. But it was already too late.

I loaded up my crew, including my lover Khan, into a prototype starship which I was forced to work on before I rebelled and ran into space to consequently come across Nero and his Romulan crew: the USS Nightjar. Even though this Dreadnought-class ship was abandoned a couple decades ago, I still had blind faith in it. I went up to the deck and started up ship.

“There she is! Stop her!” I heard someone say on the ground floor.

The ship was hit by repeated shots outside, but luckily I was able to escape into space with my crew safely on board.

“Computer, set ship to auto-pilot. I have something I have to take care of,” I commanded.

”System’s on auto-pilot,” I heard it say back to me.

I got up from the Captain’s chair to make my way through the dark corridors of the ship to my crew in the cargo area of the ship.

It didn’t take me long to figure out how to infiltrate Starfleet to get my crew back. After I saw the news about Khan’s trail, I had a feeling they were going to put him back to sleep seeing how much of a softy they can be. But I am grateful that they still kept him alive.

The ship did look a bit older than when I last saw it. Of course being the prototype that it was, it wasn’t supposed to be anything grand like Khan’s USS Vengeance. I made it to the cargo where my crew were safely still in their cryotubes. I went over to Khan’s tube and stood there. He looked so peaceful inside to the point my heart ached for his touch again. My fingers went over the tube system keyboard and punched in the code to start the reanimation process.

”Reanimation process has started. Estimated time: 5 minutes.”

I touched the window of the tube as I watched his face slowly taking on color again.

“Soon, my love,” I whispered. “Soon we’ll be together again.”

BOOM

The whole ship jerked as I tried to keep Khan and a couple others within my reach steady. With much anxiety, I ran back up to the deck and saw a couple of Starfleet Constitution-class ships attacking mine. Just before I was able to fight back, the ship jerked horribly to the side, and I flew into the wall hitting my head and blacked out.

BEEP

BEEP

BEEP

A bothersome noise woke me up, but everything was pitch black. My body was crammed into a very tight space, and I could feel the oxygen becoming thinner and thinner. There was enough room for me to bang on what I thought was the door to wherever I was in. After about a dozen punches, I heard the piece of metal fly off to see...black. I managed to squeeze out of my holding place and stretched my ligaments before attempting to find out what the infernal beeping was coming from. I walked with my right hand against the wall until I heard the sound of the automatic doors open, and a glaring small red light flashed before my eyes from an earpiece. It was on a desk of a small abandoned quarter. I went and picked it up to put it in my ear.

I pressed the button on the side of the device before speaking, “Hello?”

“I knew you would find it,” I heard a familiar voice answer.

“K-Khan?” My voice cracked.

“Yes, darling. It’s me.” I almost cried because of my overwhelming emotions, but I swallowed it back in wanting to be strong for him. “Come to me.”

“I...I can’t. I can’t see anything. Everything is dark.”

“What? How? What happened to your night vision?”

“While you were still sleeping, I was trying to fight off some Starfleet ships. And the next thing I know, my head collided with the wall, and I blacked out.”

I heard him sigh from the other line. “The impact must have hit the exact place of your head that controls your vision.” He fell silent before he spoke, “I can’t come get you because I have to move our crew onto the carrier.”

“Why move them? I just need to find the power unit to the ship.”

“Are you unaware of the danger we are in?” I answered with silence, which didn’t make Khan feel any better. “They damaged the ship to the point it won’t work anymore. They left all of us to die...into a collapsed star. A black hole.” My felt my eyelids stretch out. The Nightjar was slowly being sucked away into the unknown. “There’s also something you probably didn’t know.”

“I highly doubt it’s gonna make the situation worse.”

“Actually, it might. You probably thought they abandoned this ship before it done being tested. While you were having fun destroying planet Vulcan, they made this ship into a explorer ship, venturing into unknown planets and capturing creatures into the ship; even the hostile ones. They’re now loose on the ship, so I need you to make haste. Use your ears.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Your ears shouldn’t be affected. Let’s try this for a second.” I heard something behind me. Something like a...cuckoo bird? “Ugh…. How annoying. No wonder you pests are extinct now.” Then a meowing sound came from the opposite direction. “Huh…. How sweet. Remember the cat we had before?”

“Yes. Yes, I do.” I smiled.

“Yeah. I hated it,” he replied bluntly, and I frowned. Then a cricket chirp was heard above me. “Did you hear all that? Then your hearing hasn’t been affected. Just remember when you learned when you heard the cuckoo, the cat, and that stupid cricket, and come to me. But do be careful. I know how reckless you can be."

I snorted in response. And with that, I made my way out of the room and listened for anything. The floor seemed silent, but then I heard several melodic notes.

“I activated a sensor to help you find the door to the next floor. This is the most help I can give you now,” he said.

“Thank you, Khan. I’ll be there soon.”

“Be safe. I love you.”

“I love you too.” I made my way down to the next area.

Suddenly, I heard something like a deep gargle sound with an occasional hiss. Something was here with me. Normally, I would fight back, but I don’t know how big it is, how strong it is, and how my attack would do against it. My boots were going to cause too much of a noise against the metal, so I slowly and quietly unzipped my stilettos and felt the cold floor beneath my feet. I can’t trust the wall anymore since I can’t be sure if the creature with me was a climber. I finally took my first steps. The gurgling noise was getting closer with every silent step, but then I also heard the faint chime of the door. It was to the left of me by 10 o’ clock, but the creature was in front of me. I held my breath and creeped diagonally to the left towards the door. When I finally made it, I let my breath go and regulated my breathing.

----------

Next floor: still darker than night. The sound I heard before wasn’t there anymore, but this time it was like a liquid is leaking out. The floor reeked with such a strong chemical odor to the point I had to cover my nose with my scarf.

“(y/n)!” Khan’s voice blurted out from the earpiece, which made me jump. “I see where you are. There’s several pipes coming out from the walls spilling out the chemicals of the ship. Whatever you do, DO NOT get close to it. Your body will not heal properly and will affect the regeneration process.”

I gasped through the fabric. Normally, fear doesn’t respond with my mind, but for some reason it has now. I took baby steps trying to not get close. As I continued, I heard leakage from either side of me. Then a familiar sound to the right of me, and it was getting closer at a rapid speed. My heart started to race. I wanted to run; however, my senses didn’t cooperate, and I couldn’t figure out exactly where the chemicals were around me. I was hopeless. Then, the creature seemed like he was doused in the chemical as it squealed for help, and the leaking noises took over one again.

“What kind of chemicals did they put in this ship?” I whispered to myself before regaining my hearing senses.

Luckily for me, the signal was straight in front of me by a mile. Cautiously, I continued forward hoping I wouldn’t run into anymore surprises on the way. I was fortunate to reach the door without running into anything else.

----------

Next floor: silence. Something wasn’t right. Every floor had some kind of obstacle, but this one was different. I tried to use my senses to the best of my abilities, but there was just silence. My heart beated inside of my eardrums as if whatever was on the same floor as I could hear my fears thumping with each rapid beat; at which it became hard to hear. My feet took small steps cautiously. There was nothing but the same icy metal until I stepped on something wet. Is it the chemical?! No, it didn’t burn. Water, maybe?

“Run!”

Suddenly, an inhuman and ear-shattering screech was heard behind me. My legs turned on autopilot, and I ran which ever direction it led me. The scream wasn’t getting any farther but was actually gaining up on me even with my unnatural speed. I took a sharp right hoping I entered a room and not the wall and turned to press the door closed out of blind luck. The thing behind the door continued to screech and claw at the door in hopes of opening it, but then it gave up as it fell silent and slithered away.

I didn't have much time left, but I still waited a few more minutes while I calibrate my heart beat and my nausiousness before attempting to open the door again. It wasn't completely quiet. The chiming of the door was closer than I thought it was as its melodic notes signaled me that it was only a few feet away. Not making the same mistake twice, I sprinted towards the exit and made my way down.

----------

Still black as ink. At this point, my feet have become numb from not the cold floor beneath me, but my own fears taking over my body. I was about to give up. But then, I heard some grunting somewhere, a very familiar grunt. It was Khan. I’m finally on the same floor as him. Building up the last of my strength and sanity, I followed his voice as I decided to pick up my pace more and more as Khan was trying his best to load up the last of our crew.

Something slithered beneath my feet….

Before I could respond, something thick hit my stomach, and I was flown into a wall. My head spun, even though darkness could not be twirling, and my arm hit something and burned. I screamed as I held my arm feeling the liquid eating through my coat layers and into my flesh. The creature screeched right in front of my face, and I prepared for the worst.

A bleach of light flooded the area as a figure approached through a pair of doors. My eyes had a hard time adjusting to the light, but I was able to see my attacker in front of me. It stood approximately eight feet tall with a spiky brown exoskeleton oozing with clear slime around it. Very similar to a scorpion, having six legs on either of its sides with two scythe-like arms pointed down in front of it as it stood up straight, and a long thin tail ending with a sharp point. The skull was large and elongated with two empty eye sockets filled with nothing, and a large mouth filled with daggers of teeth. It screeched like two metal bars colliding with each other at my savior: Khan.

He held a plasma rifle and fired it at the giant creature as it prepared to strike with its arms. It stepped back from the blow and took another try at striking Khan, but he blocked the attack with his rifle and shot down its legs. It fell to the ground still screaming with an ear shattering sound. My savior grabbed either part of its jaws and proceeded to rip apart the joints separating it from its skull including parts of the skull with it.

Before I could sigh in relief, he rushed to me and examined my gashed arm.

"It should have the ability to heal once we wash off the remains of the chemicals from the wound though it won’t heal properly, and it will hurt," He said.

"Has that ever stopped me?" I replied.

He grunted in response and pulled me up with my injured arm. I screamed from the horrendous pain that shocked through my whole arm and shoulder.

"Not following orders hurt, does it not?"

"You didn't give me any orders," I told him off angrily.

"I ordered you to be careful, did I not?" I looked down at the metallic ground beneath me not sure to be upset with him or myself. "That's what I thought." Before I could respond back, he swept me off my feet into his arms as he carried me into the cargo deck towards the shuttle.

"What are you doing?"

"Your naked feet are getting cold. You could get further injured or get sick if you continue," Khan responded without even giving me one second of eye contact, venturing forward into the shuttle craft with our sleeping crew aboard.

"You of all people should know that I don't get cold easily, let alone get sick."

He stopped near the front of the shuttle and looked into my eyes. "I know...."

Then a petal soft kiss landed on my forehead.

This is my fic "Vengeance" epilogue. There might be slight spoilers from the fic. Proceed if wish to.

After 19 days later, my Halloween special fic is done! Well . . . 19 DAYS LATER! *facepalms self* I'm horrible . . .

Anyways, I got the idea from play the app game "Nightjar" with the narration of Benedict Cumberbatch, and I thought to myself, "Why not make this into a fic?" xD So, yeah . . . here it is! Those who haven't played the game yet, there might be slight spoilers in this too.
I really do recommend the game. It's a whole lot of fun for how simple it looks, but looks can be deceiving like this one. One of the most realistic survival horror games I've played (and I've played a good chunk).
